Mighty Joe
(Fire Fightin’ Man)
J. Michael Tracy male vocal/uptempo
How it even started, none could really say
It was like the Devil’s dragon, had come to town to play
The old house was abandoned, well at least it seemed to be
And tongues of flame were lickin’ at the roof beneath the eaves
The men of Ladder 7, were led by Mighty Joe
A mountain of a man, with a kind and gentle soul
They took the call and in a flash, they were on their way
And every time they’d get that call, big Joe would pray
They knew exactly what to do-so quickly they prepared
But no one knew a little girl was inside, hurt and scared
No cars were in the driveway and a rescue seemed remote
Bout then Joe heard the screamin’, his heart went to his throat
His gear was on in seconds, as Joe leapt through the flames
He swore he’d never let this beast be takin’ lives again
He found her underneath the stairs, huddled on the floor
He wrapped her in his coat and turned as flames engulfed the door
As he said “Honey, hold on tight”, the roof began to fall
With Hell’s inferno closin’ in, Joe broke through the wall
His body had become her shield, protected by his mask
“God just let me get her out” was all that he could ask
The Good Lord must have heard the prayer of Mighty Joe that day
A pathway opened through the smoke, it had to be the way
He knocked aside a burnin’ beam and stumbled through some glass
He’d somehow found his way through Hell and out into the grass
With ringin’ ears and burnin’ eyes, he heard his men
Cheerin’, as the belly of the beast was starved again
Someone took the little girl and told him she’d be fine
His helmet scorched and suit destroyed, he just sat down and cried
He’ll fight that dragon every day, it’s what he’s born to do
A special breed who’ll give his life for us, for me and you
He says that it is just his job, but we all understand
He’s one of us, the best of us, a Fire Fightin’ Man.
