My name is John Michael Tracy. Born in Elmira NY, now living near Atlanta GA, always a creative person, I started writing music in the early 90s. Inspired by my Grandfather, Carl Casselbury, my late music agent and mentor, Donn Hecht and my wife and best friend, Kathy Miller, I love writing, creating artwork, photography, hunting, fishing, Muscle Cars and exploring. Lots of real life has made it's way into my songs. It's something I love to do, and as a mentor and songwriter friend, Jerry Vandiver says, "we write, because we have to". The music, my music, must come out.
I learned piano when I was a kid. Taught myself guitar and performed with a small country band in upstate NY for a while. Enjoying how music made myself and other folks feel. I learned piano when I was a kid. Taught myself guitar and performed with a small country band in upstate NY for a while. Enjoying how music made myself and other folks feel. When my grandfather challenged me to write my own songs, I started on the journey to hone my craft to something that spoke from my heart and soul, hopefully to speak to others as well. I don't love performing, but it fascinates me to watch others perform and interpret my music. Especially when it reaches hearts.
My inspirations have been legion. I draw from life experiences, childhood experiences, the journey of life, my Sweetheart, dreams, battles won and lost, muscle cars, things that might have been and might yet be and whatever else strikes a chord that leads to lyrics and melody. In short, everything.
A plea to a love lost to money.
Don’t Go to Mexico
J. Michael Tracy male vocal/uptempo
--Says he’s takin you where it don’t snow
-They say it’s somwhere down in Mex-i-co
--But there’s something you don’t realize
----There’s no truth behind his eyes
-I know his words are smooth his touch seems kind
---But he’s playin with your mind
--He has no soul--and his heart is ice
---Please listen darlin---hear my advice-
(chorus)
oh
Leeeeeeena
Don’t go to Mexico
He says he owns a place down there
---But he won’t say where-my
Leeeeeeena
--His promises are lies
--I know he’s going to break your heart--and he don’t love ya
-So don’t go to Mexico
--Leavin’s somethin-that you’d never do
--But he’s got some kind of hold-on-you
--He says soon he will take you away
---And it don’t matter what I say
--Girl this has to be your wake up call
And I hope you’ll see right-through it all
Cause I’ll be there so fast your heart will spin
I can’t let him take you--I won’t let him win-oh
(chorus)
(bridge)
Is it Acapulco or Ve-ra Cruz
-Can’t ya see he’s only----usin’ you--my

When all else fails.
J. Michael Tracy male vocal/uptempo
Daddy didn't own a gun, he was a peaceful man
Said he’d had enough of killin’---in Viet Nam
He moved us out to Grandpa’s farm, after Grandma died
Vowed we’d never let it go----and Grandpa cried
Wasn’t long before we started hearin’ things at night
Breakin’ glass, the sounds of laughter---and flashin’ lights
Daddy called the Sheriff---but he never came
Said “Jim you’re on your own—it’s them Gilbert boys again
Daddy said, his Daddy said “Son try to do what’s right
Don’t turn your back on family or go lookin’--for a fight
But if you’ve gotta make a stand and there’s nowhere to run
---Ya do what ya gotta do
-----Get Grandpa’s Gun!”
The Sheriff said “Jim I’d come out, but they know where I live,
They’re bad seed every one of them and won’t---none of them forgive
One night I took young Jesse in for beatin’ up his wife
The next day my barn burnt down and they--threatened my life”
So Daddy stepped out on the porch to ask them all to leave
A shot rang out, a window shattered---and Momma screamed
Daddy ran into the house saw Momma on the floor
Holdin’ Grandpa’s bloody head---that’s when Daddy swore
(chorus)
(step up one key)
He opened up the closet, grabbed the old 243
Shut off all the lights and said---“Now listen to me
No matter what you think you hear- do not go outside”
He slipped out the back door into the night
--We heard shots, someone screamed, it sounded like a war
Heard’m gettin’ in their truck--then heard an engine roar
The truck was almost to the road when it burst into flames
And Daddy--made damn sure they’d--never kill again
(chorus)

A song dedicated to the ones who give us guys, a reason to live.
We know, they know, we’ll do, most anything
To win, a woman’s love
We’ll jump high, run far, go fly’n, bout anywhere
And never get enough
Inside, each guy, they know there’s, a little boy
Just ache’n to come out
It thrills us, they love us, cause that’s how, God made us
And that’s what love’s about
(chorus)
That’s why God made beautiful women
Make’s a man feel like he’s livin’
Cause they teach us how to love
That’s why God, made beautiful women
Our Mommas, and our wives, young girls, and grandmas
Let’s don’t forget the rest
All ages, all sizes, keep standin’, beside us
Just bring’n out the best, in us
(chorus)
(bridge)
They’re our inspiration
Sometimes aggravate’n
Funny thing about 'em
We can’t live without them
(chorus)
That’s why God made beautiful women
Make’s a man feel like he’s livin’
Cause they teach us how to love
That’s why God, made beautiful, that’s why God, made beautiful women
(tag)
Beautiful women
So beautiful
Files coming soon.
A song of loyal love.
He stays out late and drinks your life away
Ya try so hard, ya live from day to day
And when he says he loves you, it’s all for show
But Darlin I want you to know
(chorus)
In a heartbeat, I’d be your man
In a heartbeat, I’d take your hand and we’d
Fly away, to a lover’s place so high
In a heartbeat, what you would find
Is a loyal man, who’ll be there by your side through your
Darkest days, and lonely nights
I’ll be there
In a heartbeat
In a heartbeat
When you find you don’t want to be alone
Don’t hesitate to call me on the phone
Cause if he should ever—walk away
Darlin count on me to stay
(chorus)
(bridge)
And when you call my name
I’ll be there for you—
(chorus)
Files coming soon.
A song about the heartbreaking road of regret.
I thought that I could give you everything you need
I never realized you only needed me
Now you’ve gone away and left me all alone
And I know what you felt, I feel it in my bones
(chorus)
Didn’t know what I had
I was busy at work
And I could not see how much you hurt
You were slippin away
Right before my eyes
It was clear as day, girl, but I was blind
And I don’t know just where my heart was at
But I’m better than that
I thought that what I did was what I had to do
Did not stop and think of what it did to you
I know you needed me and I was never there
Just give me one more chance to show how much I care
(chorus)
(bridge)
How I wish that I could take a time machine
Back when, to kiss and hold you like you’ve never seen
(chorus)
Let me show you where my heart is at
Cause I’m better than that
Yeah I’m better than that
Files coming soon.
A song of the heartbreak of losing a soulmate.
Where are you now
A cold November wind, lightly fallen snow
It tore my life apart, to watch you go
And when the angels came, to set you free
It broke my heart
(chorus)
Where are you now
Beneath this harvest moon
I make this vow
We’ll be together soon
I’ll take this wall of emptiness and break it down somehow
But all I need to know
Where are you now
Tonight I felt your tears falling from the sky
Why did we never have the chance to say goodbye
It’s so very hard to face another day
Cause you’re gone
(chorus)
(bridge)
Honey wait for me cause I won’t be too far
And we can fly, to the stars
(1/2chorus)
I’ll take this wall of emptiness and break it down somehow
But all I need to know
Where are you now
Beneath this harvest moon
I make this vow
We’ll be together soon
I’ll take this wall of emptiness and break it down somehow
But all I need to know
All I need to know, where are you now
Files coming soon.
No matter how good things look, heartbreak overshadows everything.
J. Michael Tracy male vocal/midtempo
A perfect sky no sign of gray
Looks like, a Carolina day
But I don’t care
Seems to me, to lose it’s blue
Whenever I start thinkin of you
It just ain’t fair
(chorus)
It tears my heart up everyday, knowin' you just walked away
And never said goodbye
I wish the sky would open up, so the rain could cover up
The traces from these tears, that never dry
Cause it’s rainin from my eyes
Rainin from my eyes
I hear you’re havin, loads of fun
Said you’ve found someone
And he’s everything to you
I gave you everything I’ve got
He must be somethin that I’m not
Cause he broke my life in two
(chorus)
(bridge)
Nothing that I am, compares to this man
It’s left me with this emptiness, And I don’t understand
(½ inst. verse)
(chorus)
(tag)
Rainin from my eyes
Cause it’s rainin from my eyes
It’s rainin
